What are the SDGs?

The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.

A vision of the World where marginalized people live healthy, safe and educated lives

Born in Kirinyaga County, Kenya in 1981, into a deeply traditional, culture-centered community where practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and forced early marriage were widely normalized. Growing up in this environment, she experienced firsthand systemic barriers placed on girls.

At the age of 12, Beth's life took a decisive and painful turn when she was subjected to circumstances that disrupted her education and abruptly ended her childhood aspirations particularly her dream of becoming a lawyer. This moment marked not only the loss of opportunity, but also the beginning of a lifelong awareness of injustice, gender inequality, and the urgent need for change. Despite these early setbacks, Beth refused to accept defeat. She later enrolled in adult education, where she pursued courses in social and community health work. During this time, she volunteered as an early childhood education teacher, using the limited knowledge & resources she had to serve others.  Earning approx. $2 per day, Beth demonstrated generosity and commitment by using part of her income to make reusable sanitary towels for vulnerable girls helping them stay in school and maintain dignity. This period was transformative. It equipped her with practical knowledge and laid the foundation for her future role as a grassroots leader and advocate.

Through her lived experience, Beth developed deep insight into the structural challenges affecting vulnerable populations, including:

Child protection failures, Limited access to education, Gender inequality, Economic
vulnerability among women, Poor sanitation & hygiene conditions; and HIV prevention and mitigation gaps. What distinguishes Beth is not only the depth of her compassion, but the breadth of her creativity. She found ways to reach women far beyond her immediate surroundings - raising funds through YouTube collaborations, producing stories of hope that travel across borders, and building networks of solidarity between women in Kenya, Mozambique, and beyond.
