Press Release
Launched on 14 February 2009, St. Valentin’s Day
Initiated by the Women’s World Summit Foundation, the campaign encourages men of
all ages to commit to create a world without violence against women. A similar
campaign exists already in 47 countries and Switzerland has joined this list by choosing
the symbolic date of St. Valentine’s day - 14 February 2009 - for its launch.
Why wear a White Ribbon?
To pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
Men are neither violent nor bad by nature. However, many resolve to actions, which can have serious
consequences. While some men are part of the problem, all men can be part of the solution.
The campaign proposes 10 ways for men to help prevent male violence against women.
To remember: Violence against women is a form of discrimination and a violation of Human Rights.
