WOMEN’S SECTION PROGRAMS - Newsletters
WWSF Prize for women’s creativity in rural life
Laureates | NominationThe Prize program annually awards about 10 laureates (US$ 1000 per laureate) for their creative community work to reduce poverty, food insecurity, AIDS and for the promotion of human rights. 354 Laureates have been awarded cash prizes since 1994. The profiles of all Laureates and the Nomination guidelines are published on our website.
International Day of Rural Women – 15 October (a UN Resolution Day since 2007)
Many organizations and the UN celebrate the Day with activities and events around the world. The annual ‘WWSF Open Letter to rural women of the world’ for the empowerment of rural women had as its 2009 theme “Claim your right to health and well-being“, which was sent to our network, members and the media.
Mali micro credit sheep project
Make your gifts differently. Order a sheep!
This program continues to mobilise WWSF members and friends to sponsor a sheep via a micro credit scheme in support of rural women in the Mopti area of Mali to acquire and raise a sheep to be sold for a good profit. Over 1000 sheep have been sponsored since the beginning of this program in support of reaching the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
WWSF ‘Thank You’ campaign
The campaign acknowledges outstanding women for their exemplary leadership and commitment to development, peace, gender justice and human rights. In 2009, WWSF said ‘Thank You’ to Prof. Yakin Erturk for her extraordinary work as UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women (2004-2009).
White Ribbon – Campaign Switzerland©
White Ribbon
In 2009, WWSF launched the White Ribbon - Campaign Switzerland©, to mobilize men to take a stand for the elimination of violence against women.
WWSF organized a first White Ribbon conference on 25 November 2009 in Geneva. Theme: “Men and Women unite for the end of violence against women”. Conference report is on www.white-ribbon.ch (in French only). Nine Swiss ‘White Ribbon Ambassadors’ have so far registered their support.
